Testicular Cancer

Testes are one of the most important parts of male reproductive system. Testes are responsible for production of sperm (which is the source of human life together with the female egg) and testosterone which starts at puberty. The testicular cancer is the development of cancerous/ malignant cells in the testes.
Causes of testicular cancer
The exact causes of testicular cancer are not known completely and are still a matter of research and analysis. However, the risk of testicular cancer is more for people who have a testicle that has failed to descend. Genes/ family history is generally quoted as another cause of testicular cancer.

Symptoms of testicular cancer
Swelling of a testicle could be the sign of testicular cancer. However, not all such swellings are testicular cancer. Such swellings could be caused by other conditions too (most of which are harmless). The lump (the testicular cancer) may or may not be accompanied by pain; so, do not consider the absence of pain as an indication of benign tissue. However, if you are in doubt then you should immediately contact a qualified doctor for advice. Detection of testicular cancer in its early stages can really prevent it from spreading around and substantially increase the effectiveness of treatment.

Diagnosis of testicular cancer
The first step in the diagnosis of testicular cancer is physical examination. The doctor can feel the lump and based on his/her observation recommend further testicular cancer tests. The next step is an ultrasound scan of the testes. The final diagnosis of testicular cancer involves biopsy. This test can confirm if the lump is malignant or benign. One important part of diagnosis of testicular cancer is to determine whether the testicular cancer is localized to that testicle or whether it has spread to other organs of the body.

Treatment of testicular cancer
As for most types of cancer, the treatment of testicular cancer too is done in three ways i.e. surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The best thing about the treatment of testicular cancer is that it is very successful for most patients. However, the golden rule that is applicable to all types of cancer is true for testicular cancer too i.e. catch it early to increase the effectiveness of treatment. Also, it’s worth noting that removal of one testicle (as part of surgical procedure for treatment of testicular cancer) doesn’t really effect your reproductive system (and if you want you can get a dummy testicle placed in the place of the removed testicle; just so it doesn’t look bad).

Stomach Cancer is More Closely Linked to Stomach Ulcers than You Think!

Interestingly enough, both the causes and the signs and symptoms of stomach cancer (also called gastic cancer) are almost identical to those of peptic ulcers. It is important to note that you are more likely to have a peptic ulcer if you are showing any of these symptoms, so do not be too alarmed! Of course if your ulcers are already at an advanced stage, then you need to read on to see if you are at risk and what to do about it. Eradicating the H Pylori bacterium is a good way to avoid stomach cancer.

RISK GROUPS
Cancer of the stomach is twice as common in men as it is in women, and most people who develop this type of cancer are over the age of 50 years. Stomach cancer is very rare in people under 40. Even so, get yourself checked out by a doctor who will be able to give you a proper diagnosis.

CAUSES OF STOMACH CANCER
Stomach cancer can be caused by a number of factors that damage the DNA in your stomach cells. When the DNA is damaged, healthy cells can grow out of control and form a tumor (a mass of malignant cells).
These factors include:

H Pylori infection - 75% of the world's population is infected with a bacterium called Helicobacter pylori (H Pylori) that lives deep in the mucous layer which coats the lining of your stomach. It is the primary cause of stomach ulcers, accounting for at least 80 percent of all cases. Also, the World Health Organization have indicated that close to 50% of the annual new cases of stomach cancer can be attributed to H Pylori infection.
If 75% of the world's population is infected with the Helicobacter Pylori bacterium, that means that right now 4.6 billion people are infected across the world. Having ulcers doesn't necessarily put you at higher risk of stomach cancer, but having H Pylori infection does.
Statistics show that 816 million of those infected with H Pylori bacterium right now will develop a stomach ulcer in their lifetime.
That means that 1 in every 7 people (or 17.7% of the current population) are at high risk, and 1 in every 14 people will get stomach cancer from H Pylori. That is an astounding 408 million people.

Nitrates and nitrites - these chemicals are added to certain foods, such as processed or cured meats such as ham and bacon, sausages and other cold meats you normally find down at the deli. Nitrates and nitrites combine with other substances in your stomach to form carcinogens, which are known to cause stomach cancer.

Salted, smoked or pickled foods and red meat - in countries where consumption of salted meat and fish and pickled vegetables is high, the corresponding rates of stomach cancer are also high. Consuming high levels of red meat, especially when the meat is barbecued or well done, has also been linked to stomach cancer.

Tobacco and alcohol use - Both can irritate the stomach lining and are especially likely to cause cancer in the upper stomach area.

Low income groups - children and adults from low income groups are more likely to develop stomach cancer than are those in higher income groups. This is due to a number of reasons. The main problem is in poor countries with poor sanitation and unhygienic living conditions where H Pylori spreads quite quickly.

PREVENTION
From the above it is clear that the easiest way to prevent stomach cancer is to know the causes. Eradicating the H Pylori bacterium is the going to take most of the risk away but then you will also need to adjust your diet and general hygiene.

SYMPTOMS
The most common symptom is a gnawing or burning pain in your stomach just below your sternum

Stomach pains are triggered by hunger and occur between meals and in the early hours of the morning

Pains can be sharp or dull
Bloating of the stomach
Pain can come and go over long periods of time
The passing of foul smelling black, tarry stools could be one of the first symptoms of a gastric ulcer or a duodenal ulcer that has started bleeding
dark red blood in your stools

If your ulcer is already at an advanced stage then repeated and different signs of bleeding can be identified.

Vomiting of new blood which is bright red in color – this indicates that a gastric ulcer has started bleeding. This will be accompanied by repeated episodes of nausea.
Vomiting dark and grainy blood that looks like instant coffee granules. The dark color indicates that this is old blood.

unplanned weight loss
faintness and dizziness when standing up - this is due to loss of blood. Over a long period of time, you may become anemic and feel weak, dizzy, or tired all the time. This is typical of a slow bleed left untreated.

TYPES OF STOMACH CANCER
Most stomach cancers start in the glandular cells in the mucous layer which coats the lining of your stomach, and are called adenocarcinomas.

Although most stomach cancers are adenocarcinomas, there are other forms of the disease, including: Lymphomas, Carcinoid tumors, and GIST’s (or gastrointestinal stromal tumors)

TREATMENT
The primary goal of any effective treatment is to remove the cancer. Choosing a treatment plan is a major decision, and it's important spend some time researching all the options to make sure the treatment you select is right for you. It is always worthwhile getting a second opinion if you are unsure.

Treatment options include Surgery, Chemotherapy, Radiation therapy, and Clinical trials.
If you are at an advanced stage, you may be offered participation in a clinical trial. Beware! You may be used as a guinea-pig to test new new drugs, surgery or radiation. You must remember that the treatments used in clinical trials are experimental and have no recorded success rates. You could experience unexpected side effects, and there will be no guarantees offered.

How Your Stomach Controls HCl Acid For Preventing Stomach Cancer

Your stomach always knows what it has to do to keep you healthy and free of disease. It does this by changing conditions in your stomach to accommodate how you eat, what you eat and when you eat it. Diseases like heartburn or acid reflux and just stomach upsets occur when you eat a poor diet or eat improperly. This causes your stomach to distort its functions and in this process distorts the function of the surround valves which control the movement of food moving in and out of the your stomach.
Here’s how your stomach works. The HCl acid in your stomach likes to be at strength of between a pH of 1 to 3. A hormone called “Gastrin” maintains this acid strength. When your stomach acid becomes weak, a pH above 3, “G cells” in the lining of your stomach release Gastrin. The gastrin hormone activates “parietal cells, also located in the stomach lining, to release HCl acid. As more acid is pumped into the stomach, the pH drops down below 3 which signals the G cells to decrease or stop the release of gastrin.
When food comes into your stomach it is usually a pH of 6-7. This causes your G cells to pump out gastrin so that the stomach lining can inject HCl into your stomach to start breaking down your food and to lower the pH back to 2-3.
Gastrin also controls the stomach muscles. It controls the stomach contractions, which move your stomach contents back and forth. When the food has been mixed and broken down, the contractions move the food into the duodenum and small intestine.
When your stomach excretes high levels of gastrin, a condition called hypergastrinemia, you become more susceptible to stomach cancer. How can excess gastrin be excreted? Excess gastrin can be excreted when your stomach wall is thinned, nonfunctional, or atrophied. And, excess gastrin can also be excreted when you take an acid blocker drug like Prilosec when you have heartburn, acid reflux or GERD.

If you block the creation of HCl with a drug during your meal, your stomach is signaled to release gastrin to produce more acid. Since a drug is blocking acid creation, the G cells believe that not enough acid is being released into the stomach so more gastrin is released.
Taking a 20 mg of Prilosec can result in the production of 3 to 4 times more gastrin. When you take more Prilosec, 40 – 60 mg, this can result in 10 times more gastrin than needed. Long-term use of Prilosec put you at risk for stomach cancer.

Now, you can see how just one drug when used to excess can create an even worst disease then the one it is trying to prevent or cure, when it is used for a long time. For this reason it is best to look for natural ways to deal with heartburn, acid reflux, or stomach distress. Correcting your diet and using natural remedies can help to cure your stomach problems and will keep you away from stomach cancer.

Rudy Silva, Natural Nutritionist, has just created a special report on how you can eliminate and cure your gastroesophageal reflux disease, heartburn, or acid reflux, using diet and natural remedies. Stage 4 Cancer - Cure Stage 4 Cancer

Whether it be stage 1,2,3 or 4 of most any cancer, they are all reversible through alternative medecine.

Case in point, take the doctor who told his patient (another doctor), a stage 4 brain tumor dying doctor, "that as far as I'm concerned, you're a dead man", when this dying doctor requested his medical records. This doctor who had been given only two months to live, still lives today totally free of cancer for over 45 years, after being treated with alternative medecine.

How many success stories involving any stages of cancers of any types, must one have to read or hear about, before one finally decides to take action? What the heck is stopping people, you, from listening? It can't be money since money is definitely not worth your life. It can't be money, because it takes no or very little money...So what is it?

Especially, when you know that the only reason you got cancer to begin with is due to malnutrition, toxins, parasites, and other contaminants, too many to mention, dating back to hundreds of years but more rampant since the Second World War because government thinking they were doing a good thing, made food cheaply available. They didn't know it then, but this was the beginning of a growing health problem.

Stage 4 cancer is when the primary tumor spreads to other organs in the body. About 30 years ago, I came across an interesting story, which I'll remember forever, and vowed this is what I would do if ever I was diagnosed. The man had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and had been given about 2-4 months to live. With nothing better to do, he decided he would pass time by tendering to his garden. Having no real desire for food or drink, he began snacking on his naturally grown vegetables straight from the garden (not washed, just removing the dirt).
The man didn't even bother with doctors visits for pain killers. As the days went by, he noticed his pains were subsiding. Thinking nothing of it, he continued his daily tendering of his garden and one day realized that he had surpassed his appointed time and no longer felt pain. He went to his doctor, and following tests and scans, the doctors couldn't believe what they were seeing. The stage 4 cancer had totally disappeared. No traces of any cancer anywhere. That was a stage 4 cancer people...cured with naturally grown vegetables.

Which brings me back to the doctor patient, who didn't give up and chose the alternative way, besides the negative statement by his treating physician. Again, how many times must you hear true stories before you take action on your cancer?

Stage 4 Colon Cancer - Don't Give Up Hope If You Reach This Stage Of Colon Cancer

Once colon cancer reaches the level of stage 4, this is the point, statistically, when the rates of survival decrease rapidly. The average five-year survival rate at this stage tends to be around 20 to 30 percent. Whilst these figures make the outlook look bad, an end to all hope should not be dismissed with stage 4 colon cancer. The importance of screening and early detection at this time is paramount.

If stage 4 colon cancer has been diagnosed, this means that the cancer has now manifested itself in other parts of the body. It is almost certain that the cancer has invaded the lymph node system and could possibly be found in the liver, lungs, bones and even the brain. Even at this stage, it is still possible for people to live past the projected five-year period. It all depends on the location of the spread of the stage 4 colon cancer. However, overall, the prognosis for stage 4 survival is not overly optimistic.

Even now, when stage 4 colon cancer has been diagnosed, there are several medical procedures and treatments that can be used to lessen symptoms. In areas where tumors can be removed, surgery can be performed to remove these tumors. If surgery isn't an option, chemotherapy and radiation therapy are often used to help. Whilst there may not be a 'cure' for stage 4 colon cancer, doctors strive to help those diagnosed to live their lives, if not a little longer, then at least a little more comfortably.

Prevention is of paramount importance in ensuring that people do not end up with stage 4 colon cancer. This in itself is not going to prove 100% effective for everyone, but to help avoid this cancer, here are a few things that people can do:

Reduce the risks. Not all of the risks can be removed. Some can though, and they simply involve changing your lifestyle habits. Smoking, over indulgence of alcohol and a diet that is high in fat and low in fiber are all risks that can be eliminated. Other personal risk factors that can be addressed are obesity and lack of exercise.

Undertake a screening program. The normal check up procedure of screening starts around the age of 50. However, if the risks are deemed high in a person, then screening will start at an earlier stage. Both men and women are prone to colon cancer, so both can expect to have their physicians request screening exams every few years.

The importance of screening programs and risk reduction are highlighted by the fact that symptoms of colon cancer do not generally appear until the later stages. The best form of defense can be installed by making these two things a priority. By doing so, one can help to reduce the chances of stage 4 colon cancer forming.

Stage 4 colon cancer is not good and if diagnosed with this cancer, it doesn't mean that all hope is lost. With the proper medical treatment and care, the chances of beating the five-year survival rate could be improved. Avoiding this situation in the first place by employing the combination of preventative measures and undergoing regular screenings is obviously the best step to take. These actions alone won't guarantee that you won't reach stage 4 colon cancer, but they will help in decreasing the chances for advancement of the colon cancer.

Skin Cancer - 5 Things You May Not Know About Protecting Your Children From Skin Cancer

Skin cancer in its deadliest form, melanoma, is on the rise and this relates to children of all ages.

1. Babies: Cases of pediatric melanoma have increased 100% in the last 20 years! (Michigan State Medical Society)
Almost everytime I'm outdoors, I see babies or small children in their strollers with their faces and heads unprotected from the sun. And while I do notice more small children than ever with hats on their heads, there seem to be triple that amount without.
All it takes is a little awareness to keep a hat on and to make sure the back of the stroller is to the sun. When 80% of the sun's damaging UV rays happens in the first 18 years of life, parents can give the gift of life twice ... once giving birth, and the second protecting their skin.

2. Teens: 2.3 million teenagers (part of 30 million Americans) use tanning beds. Ultraviolet rays are the primary factor in developing skin cancer and are 15 times greater in a tanning booth than outdoors. Up until now, there have been very few warnings about health risks in tanning salons.
Finally, legislators are trying to change that. 25 states across the country want to restrict youth access to indoor tanning facilities. In addition, if passed, this legislation would require parental consent for anyone under 18, along with the listing of potential health consequences in these salons, and licensing by the state.
This is a potentially life-saving public issue and any help parents can give both at home with their children and in their support of their representatives can only help save lives.

3. Women ages 20-29: They're adults but they're still somebody's children. Melanoma is now the second most common cancer in this age group.
While it is best to get kids started early on the habit of using sun protection, better late than never. you know how to talk to your children best, but if you see a tan on your daughter, you might ask how she came to it...beach? tanning salon? Or, fake tanning lotion which of course would be Choice No. 1 other than, perhaps, no tan at all.

4. African-American or Asian children: The risk for melanoma isn't as high as with Caucasian children, but it can be more deadly because a lesion or irregular mole can't be seen as easily.
Talking with them at all ages about sun protection and teaching them what to look for is and examining them regularly is vital.

5. The perfect tan. For years, the perfect tan was looked at as the way to look healthy, attractive, thinner (believe it or not), and possibly even rich (if you have time to lounge in the sun, you really must be well off). And the warmth of the sun feels good. There's no doubting that.
The perfect tan is still sought today. Lines form around some of the more popular tanning salons, grown women included.
But now we have information we didn't have. Irrefutable information. It's hard to ignore it and worse, later on, if we're one of the unlucky ones, what do we say to ourselves - and our families? It's just a little extra effort for potentially a longer and healthier life. Is the perfect tan worth losing all that?

Prostate Cancer and Sex - My Journey With Prostate Cancer - One Mans View

Sex -
From my short- time experience and from what I have heard already from other sufferers – this is one of those topics that men most want to know about- but few medics are specific about. All too often, the individual reality remains hidden behind terms and statistics like 30% impotence- but what does that mean exactly to the individual?

“Impotence” can be a very general term - to some it means an inability to sire children – yet to others it means the ability to have an erection and satisfy a partner. What does it really mean on a Saturday night when you are alone with a partner, you’ve had a nice meal, the mood is right- and you wish to indulge in some sexual activity?

In discussing this issue honestly and openly, it is necessary for me to ask you to first take the element of “love” right out of the equation. I’m primarily talking about sex and not love or lovemaking. We will put it in back later, but first in raw terms it is necessary to discuss the most basic drive (and function) in all males- the ability to have an erection and please or satisfy a partner.

Having an erection or being able to have one, is at the base of everything we hold dear as being the men that we are. Little wonder, problems with being able to achieve that, can strike at the very core of our sense of wellbeing and confidence.

Physically, each prostate case is different, and how the individual is affected long term entirely depends what is removed by whichever procedure. Given that there are two main “tubes” on either side of the prostate that supply the penis with the “wherewithal” to function properly, in most surgery’s one or even both tubes may have to be removed depending on the spread. Nowadays Surgeons are very careful to try to save as much as possible- but it’s not always possible. If a man’s cancer is on one side of the prostate, as it usually is, it’s almost a certainty that he will lose one of the two tubes. In such a case, his capability may be affected (although not necessarily) if prior to the procedure he had no difficulties in achieving full, firm erections etc. If on the other hand he was experiencing difficulties before one tube was removed, it is highly likely that his capabilities will be even further reduced.

From what I have been able to find out so far- most men with one tube intact may be able to function satisfactorily with or without assistance from such modern day marvels as Viagra or Cialus. This is a fantastic thing because it is not so long ago that there were fewer medical alternatives available, but now many men and their partners are benefiting from these recent medical advances.

If a man loses both “tubes” in radical surgeries, there is another alternative that is still viable in many cases . He can inject himself - (usually alprostadil) into the base of his penis. This is perhaps, not as radical as it sounds and I have two friends who, due to other medical conditions, have happily relied on these injections for several years and have reported few difficulties. They also stress it is nowhere near as bad as it sounds. These options have opened up the way over recent years for men to still indulge in ordinary sexual activity. If a guy is still experiencing difficulties- further adjustments with medications may help correct any imbalances.

One of the reasons why Brachytherapy is enjoying such a positive reputation, is because the procedure leaves the tubes intact, (although atrophied) which in turn, reportedly leaves men functioning better afterwards. In time, emissions will dry up and in cases of surgery where there has been removal, ejaculation will simply end up in the bladder. There will be the sense of cumming as well as an orgasm, but nothing will come out.

Again, all cases are individual and no information here can be relied upon as gospel – but there is cause for optimism because from what I have been told and from what I have been able to find out- in most cases a reasonable form of sex life has been possible post procedure or surgery.
One man I know had his prostate removed thirty years ago and he reports to have had a very active sex life up until very recently (he’s now 85). Although following the procedure he has been unable to produce any ejaculate, he said that he always believed his orgasms were even more intense and no less satisfying.

I mentioned in the beginning of this article that I was mainly speaking of only the ability to perform penetration with a weapon that functioned, but it would be remiss of me not to mention the special assistance that can be provided by a loving understanding partner within the confines of a relationship. While I’m not going to address that issue here simply because my research so far has been limited in that area, it is worth noting that in most cases a satisfying sex life encompasses much more than just penetration- and even though a man may be robbed of some aspect of his sexuality- the door is still open to explore and enjoy many other techniques of sensuality. It is seldom a case of coming to the end of the world!

Certainly, in these times, impotence is not the big bogeyman that it once was and in future times I look forward to exploring this topic more and posting information. If you have some experience in this area and would like to share it with me under a blanket of anonymity to share it with others, please feel free to contact me via the “contact me box” and your experience could be invaluable in assisting other men.

What is Pancreatic Cancer?

Pancreatic cancer is perhaps the deadliest of all types of cancer. Only five out of a hundred people who suffer from it will survive for more than five years after the cancer has been diagnosed. In this article, we will discuss exactly what this is, some of the symptoms, and how to prevent the disease from occurring.

Your pancreas is an important gland organ in your digestive system. It helps both with both digestion, releasing digestive enzymes, as well as producing important hormones such as insulin, glucagon and somatostatin. When there is a malignant tumor found on someone's pancreas, they are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. In the United States, about 33,000 individuals each year are diagnosed with this condition. In Europe, around 60,000 people suffer from from this cancer each year.

Often, this type of cancer goes undiagnosed for a while, because the symptoms are hard to identify. The common symptoms include upper abdominal pain, which spreads to the back and is only alleviated when the person leans forward.

Other symptoms include drastic weight-loss, lack of appetite, and suffering from jaundice, but feeling no pain from it.

There are certain factors which put you at risk for pancreatic cancer. Age, being male, smoking, having a diet high in meat, and being overweight. In addition, African ethnicities are at a higher risk, those who work around pesticides and chemicals related to gasoline, and those who have a family history of diseases associated with the pancreas.

The best way to prevent pancreatic cancer is avoiding the factors which tend to cause it. Among them, cigarette smoking seems to be the biggest trigger for it. One of the best ways to avoid this condition is to maintain an ideal body weight, and eat a healthy diet with lots of fruits and vegetables, and little red meat. In addition, further studies are suggesting that taking vitamin D can reduce the risk of this type of cancer.

Typically, a patient diagnosed with pancreatic cancer only survives three to six months after the diagnosis. It has the highest fatality rate of all cancers, and in the United States, it is the fourth highest cancer killer.

In conclusion this is a very serious condition, and is often hard to identify. It is highly recommended to take advanced preventive measures by exercising, eating a healthy diet, and avoiding negative factors such as cigarette smoking, pesticides and chemicals found in gasoline to decrease the risk of this type of cancer.

Is Pancreatic Cancer Curable?

Bob looks at Dr. Peter Roland with trepidation. What is he going to say? Will he give him false hopes? Thoughts like this are rummaging through his mind and he is looking at the doctor for a hint as to what the result of his medical tests would be. Bob has never felt so troubled in his life time. He is wondering about his wife Julia and kids waiting at home for him. A lump forms in his throat and tears blur his vision. Bob is not alone in this situation. There are thousands of Bobs in this world waiting with fear and anxiety about their health condition, while pancreatic cancer affects them without their knowledge.

This deadly disease is a silent killer. Pancreatic cancer is never known till it reaches a late stage. Since the organ is very tiny and is placed in a tricky place it’s difficult to detect pancreatic tumors till a late stage. This is one form of cancer which does not provide definite symptoms whereby the cancer can be detected at a formative stage, and coupled with that is the fact that options for treatment for this cancer is limited.

Pancreatic cancer is the fourth most fatal form of cancer behind breast, colon and prostrate. There are four stages in pancreatic cancer. If it is detected at the first stage when it is still developing in the pancreas then chemotherapy can possibly prevent the cancer from spreading and clean it out of the system. Generally pancreatic cancer is never detected in stage one. Stage two also tries to arrest the spreading of the cancer to other related organs by chemotherapy or radiotherapy. If these two fail then surgery to remove the pancreas called pancreatectomy can be performed. This depends on the age and health condition of the patient.

In stage three the cancer could have spread like fire and other body parts and tissues may also have got affected. Surgery and chemotherapy to the other parts including pancreas is performed. By the fourth stage it’s futile to try any treatment as the cancer has affected the nearby organs like stomach, spleen, large bowels or the nearby blood vessels

Once the cancer sets in the pancreas, the bile duct which caries bile from the liver to the arteries gets clogged and there is reverse flow of bile as a result of which jaundice and fever set in the body. Subsequentl,y it starts affecting other organs as well, and ultimately leads to death.

Pancreatic Cancer

Pancreas is responsible for producing insulin which regulates the sugar level in the body. All those who know what diabetes is would know the importance of insulin in body (and hence the importance of pancreas). Pancreas also produces pancreatic juice which helps in digestion of food. When abnormal growth of cells (malignant cells) occurs in the pancreas, it is called pancreatic cancer. Like other types of cancer, pancreatic cancer too is life threatening.

Cause of pancreatic cancer
Pancreatic cancer is again one of those that happen to older people (generally those above the age of 60). Chronic pancreatitis, which is caused by consumption of large amounts of alcohol, can act as a predecessor of pancreatic cancer. Some people tend to associate pancreatic cancer to genes and family history but there doesn’t seem any concrete evidence to suggest one or the other. Generally speaking, pancreatic cancer doesn’t seem to have a relation to family history.

Symptoms and diagnosis of pancreatic cancer
Again, none of the symptoms of pancreatic cancer are such so as to give confirmatory indications of pancreatic cancer. Pain in the abdomen, tiredness and loss of appetite are said to be symptoms of pancreatic cancer but these can really be caused by so many other things that it might not even occur to you that this could be caused by pancreatic cancer. However, if you are skeptical and want to make sure that everything is ok, you can always consult a qualified doctor to vet out your fears. Jaundice is another symptom of pancreatic cancer but this too can be caused by other things. So, really, it comes to proper tests and diagnosis to detect pancreatic cancer. The doctors would generally go for a urine test (for bile) and a blood test as the first screening tests for pancreatic cancer. In case these tests suggest pancreatic cancer, there could be need for x-rays and other tests (as deemed fit by the doctor).

Treatment of pancreatic cancer
As is the case with any type of cancer, the chances of survival with pancreatic cancer is governed by how early you are able to catch the symptoms and diagnose pancreatic cancer. The treatment for pancreatic cancer is dependent on the size of the cancer, the stage of cancer and your general health. A major consideration is the size of the cancer and whether it has spread around or is localized. For pancreatic cancer too, the best treatment is removal of the cancer through surgical procedure (and it’s a major surgery). Chemotherapy and radiotherapy are other ways of treating pancreatic cancer.

Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer begins in the cells that form the ovaries. Among these cells are surface epithelial cells, germ cells, and the sex cord-stromal cells. This is why cancer cells that metastasize from other organ sites to the ovary are not called ovarian cancer. Breast and colon cancers are examples of such cancers.
It has been observed that the majority of women with epithelial ovarian cancer are not diagnosed early enough. The diagnosis is done only when the disease has reached an advanced stage. By that time, the cancer spreads to the upper abdomen (stage I) or beyond (stage II). The chance of these women surviving five years is only 15 to 20 percent. But the chance of survival for the same period is 90% for patients in stage I, and about 70% for stage II patients.
Some ovarian tumors are benign, in which case the patient can be cured by surgically removing one ovary or the part of the ovary hosting the tumor. Some are malignant or cancerous. Malignant ovarian tumors are generally of three types: epithelial tumors, germ cell tumors and stromal tumors.
Epithelial tumors, accounting for most of the cases, develop in a layer of cube-shaped cells known as the germinal epithelium, which surrounds the outside of the ovaries. Its victims are mostly teenagers and young women. Germ cell tumors are not so common, and are found in the egg-maturation cells of the ovary. These patients can not only be cured, but also their fertility protected. Dangerous if allowed to spread, stromal tumors originate from connective tissue cells that hold the ovary together and produce the female hormones estrogen and progesterone.
All ovarian tumors are not cancerous. Benign cysts, dermoid tumors, and borderline malignant tumors all are distinct from ovarian cancer. These are curable and rarely prove fatal.

Ovarian Cancer-PMS Symptoms - Treatment Options for Ovarian Cancer-PMS Symptoms

Many health conditions have very similar symptoms and therefore it is imperative that if you have any unusual symptoms going on that you get a thorough physical from your doctor to help determine exactly what is going on. Ovarian Cancer and PMS -premenstrual syndrome are two conditions that have some of the same symptoms. The similar symptoms of Ovarian Cancer and PMS will be reviewed. Treatment options for both will be discussed as well.

Ovarian Cancer Symptoms
It has been believed that symptoms of Ovarian Cancer did not appear until the tumor spreads. Very recently however, it has been discovered that there may be early signs. These symptoms can be bloating, abdominal pain and frequent urination or intense urge to urinate. You may experience problems with eating or you may feel full really quickly. If these symptoms have not appeared before or if they become severe, every woman should see their doctors' for cancer screening.

Other symptoms of ovarian cancer could include a feeling of heaviness in the pelvic/abdominal area, lower abdominal pain, and/or vaginal bleeding. Other symptoms may include irregular periods, unexplained back pain that gets continually worse, and increased abdominal girth. Some gastro-intestinal problems such as gas, indigestion, decreased appetite and problems eating the usual amount of food may be symptomatic of ovarian cancer.

Nausea, vomiting, and feeling bloated may also indicate ovarian cancer. Excessive hair growth may also occur.

PMS Symptoms
There are two believed causes of premenstrual symptoms. The first is low serotonin levels (brain chemical that helps control mood, sleep, and your appetite. Associated symptoms include mood swings, irritability, aggressive behavior, and anger. Fatigue and sleep problems may also occur. Anxiety, depression and concentration problems are also associated symptoms. Food cravings and an increase in your appetite may also occur.

The second possible cause is related to the hormonal fluctuations and may be headaches including migraines. Sore breasts, bloating, and back ache might also be experienced by some women. There are over 100 associated indicators related to PMS.

Treatments
Ovarian cancer can be treated in a number of ways. Surgery is an option and may include removal of just the diseased ovary or both can be removed. If this is the case, you will no longer be able to get pregnant and early menopause may occur if you have had it already.
Radiation Treatment uses extremely high energy x-rays to do one of two things; shrink the cancer cells or to kill them. With radiation you may experience the side effects such as nausea, fatigue, and diarrhea. Report these to your doctor immediately because there are ways to help. Chemotherapy is given most often after surgery.

They may be administered intravenously or by mouth. Once the drugs are in the blood stream they spread throughout the body. This is a good treatment when the cancer has spread beyond the ovaries.

Side effects from chemotherapy may include nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, hair loss, and rashes on the hands and feet. Damage may occur to the kidneys or nerves. Tiredness due to low red blood cell counts, bleeding/bruising from minor cuts due to low platelet counts and mouth sores may occur. Once treatments are done most of these things go away. PMS treatments include prescribed medications; possibly anti-depressants which are used no matter the level of severity. These come with some very serious side effects and as a result many people are looking for natural treatments such as herbal supplements.

Herbal supplements of high quality should have been put through intense testing. The metabolism of the ingredients is tested at the molecular level and the interactions of the ingredients examined. They also should have been made to meet pharmaceutical grade standards. This guarantees that what the label says it contains, is really in the supplement. The safety, purity, and effectiveness of the supplement are also guaranteed. Before taking any supplement, check with your doctor because the herbs may have an effect on how prescriptions you may be taking for other conditions work.

Conclusion
Ovarian cancer PMS symptoms do have some commonalities such as a little lower abdominal pain, weight gain, irregular periods, and indigestion. These symptoms can indicate either Ovarian Cancer/PMS symptoms. It is very strongly recommended that if you suspect you have PMS or ovarian cancer, to get medical advice as soon as possible. Both can be treated but ovarian cancer may be more survivable if caught early rather than later: and that is usually the case.

Ovarian Cancer - An Overview of Ovarian Cancer Treatment

Basically there are three major types of treatments for ovarian cancer. They are radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and surgery. The treatment processes may also be various combinations of these basic treatments.

Radiotherapy treatment is used to destroy the cancer cells by high energy radiation exposure.
Chemotherapy is a form of treatment used to treat it to destroy cancer cells using strong cancer fighting drugs.

Treatment with surgery is used to remove tissue affected by the cancer. Surgery is most often required when treating ovarian cancer.

Although not commonly used, radiotherapy must include all cancer cells within the radiation field and abdominal organs to be effective. Many women are diagnosed when the cancer is in the later stages, and then when treatment for ovarian cancer is sought the abdominal organs may not be able to withstand the doses of radiation required to destroy all tumorous tissue. If the cancer is confined to one or both ovaries and has not spread to the abdominal organs, radiotherapy can be an effective option for treating this cancer.

Another treatment option for it is chemotherapy. This involves using powerful drugs to destroy cancerous cells. While these drugs stop cancer cells from dividing rapidly and growing they can also damage normal cells.

Most women, in addition to other treatment, will undergo surgery as part of their treatment plan. It is not uncommon for surgery to be used in combination with chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Removal of cancerous tissue is connected with improved survival rates so surgery is particularly significant in the treatment of ovarian cancer. It also enables the physician to accurately make a diagnosis, stage the tumor as well as remove as much of the tumor mass as possible.

These are the basic treatments commonly used for treatment of ovarian cancer. They may be used alone or in combination with one another. The stage of cancer, histopathologic type, and grade of disease, patient's health and age are all factored in when a decision for treatment is made. Before undergoing a certain treatment program it is normally advisable to get a second opinion.
